Icarus - Before the fall

My first actual artpiece. The picture is based on the Greek/ Roman legend of Icarus (Ikaros). He and his father escaped from the minotaur's maze in Minos (a maze which Daedalus, Icarus' father himself designed). The maze was impossible to find your way out of and so they collected feathers from the chickens that were fed to the Minotaur and used bees' wax to glue the wings together. Then they flew away from the island.

Even though Daedalus had warned Icarus not to to fly to close to the sea because of the high rocks, and not too high because the sun's heat would melt the wax, Icarus got overconfident and flew too high. He eventually plumeted to his death.

This picture shows the moment before the fall, when Icarus was still enjoying himself (too much).
